COACHING SCHEDULE
Coaching schedule:
A coaching schedule for May is being finalized and will be posted on the bulletin board in the boathouse before Monday.
Coaching staff updates:
Coach Scott Nunn is in his final week with AARC, as he will be leaving to take a "real" job in California. AARC thanks Scott for all of the practices he has coached over the past year! Scott's shifts will be covered by new coach Leah Farrell. Leah was previously a standout rower for the University of Michigan and the Canadian Under-23 team and is currently a coach for Pioneer High School. She will be coaching Open and ITP in May and then will expand her role to also include the Youth program in the summer. (Some may have met Leah during her orientation on 4/24 and 4/25.) Over the next month you may also meet Bill Lockwood and Caroline Pettit. Both coaches will start with AARC in June and are likely to be seen doing their orientation during May. Further introductions will be made as they come on board.
Training plans:
Online updates to the ITP training plan and the development of supplemental erg workouts for all rowers can be expected over the next week or so.
DON'T FORGET TO REGISTER FOR MAY ROWING
If you haven't already registered to row this May, please do so by visiting www.a2crew.com. If you rowed in April and would like to continue into May, please register by 4:30pm on Sunday April 30 to assure uninterrupted rowing! Questions? NEED VOLUNTEERS FOR CLUB EVENTS
Hi all, I'm looking for volunteers for the Quick Catch session on Sunday, May 7. The session is 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 a.m. What I'll need is 8 rowers and 2 cox'ns for when we advance to the 8+ boats. If a few helpers could show up at 9:00 and help me set up the ergs and food, and then help when we get the learners ON the ergs that would be great. The rest of you could arrive around 10:45 to carry boats down, set up oars, and take participants out in the shells. Thanks to those of you who have already committed your time!
This is an important club activity, so I'm hoping a lot of you will be available to help!
Please email me (Casey) if you can help out May 7, and let me know your availability from 9:00 - 1:00 pm (last 1/2 hour for putting away boats, etc, but we might not need it). casey.rows@gmail.com
Other Events we Need Volunteers for:
- National LTR Day May 20 - need folks to greet participants, help out as needed for any amount of time you can give sometime between 10:00 and 3:00, email Sarah to volunteer ( marsh.sk@gmail.com)
- QuickCatch June 4 - email Casey to volunteer
- QuickCatch June 18 - email Casey to volunteer
SCULLING BEGINS
Club scullers (those who are club scullers exclusively and those who also sweep), the small boats are rigged and it's time to get out there! If you want to row, you must register first. For those who are already registered for sweep rowing, you'll pay the $5 monthly increment for access to the small boats. For those who are not sweep rowers, you'll pay the entire fee ($65 or thereabouts, depending on the month). Both sweep+scullers and scullers-only start here to register: https://www.sporg.com/registration?link_type=reg_info&form_id=40236
Email aarc-info@umich.edu with registration or other questions!
COACHED SCULLING BEGINS
For PBOs who paid the additional coaching/equipment fee and for all club scullers, coached sculling practices will begin on Saturday May 6 from 8:00 am til 9:30 am. For this first practice, please RSVP to Sarah so that we are sure there are enough coaches/launches per rower. marsh.sk@gmail.com
