Mission Statement

The mission of the Ann Arbor Rowing Club is to provide and promote a safe, affordable, and educationally rewarding rowing experience for residents of Ann Arbor and the surrounding area.

Club History

Argo Pond has hosted nationally competitive rowing since University of Michigan Men's Crew Team began rowing there in 1976. The Ann Arbor Rowing Club (then known as Arbor Rowing) joined them in early 1980s with just a handful of rowers and boats stored on outdoor racks. The club has been growing quickly and becoming more competitive ever since. UM and AARC were joined by Ann Arbor Huron High School's team in 1993 and Ann Arbor Pioneer High School's team in 1999. AARC's current boathouse was constructed in 2001/2002 under a 15 year renewable lease with the City of Ann Arbor. AARC currently has 100-120 active members at any given time, with 8 rowing coaches and 6 sculling coaches under hire.

Rowing in the U.S.

Rowing is one of the fastest growing sports in the country. Much of the growth is due to Title IX and an increase in Masters Rowing programs. Rowing is growing quickly because anyone can row - it's a sport for all types and ages, and can be enjoyed for a lifetime.
