Youth Rowing

Program Overview

Competitive Youth Rowing Program: This program is for the high school rower who desires a more intensive training plan designed to maintain an excellent fitness level, refine their rowing skills, and provide more opportunity for competition. This program will participate in the Michigan Club Invitational Regatta in July and select rowers will have the opportunity to participate in the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta the week of August 4, 2008. Because of the preparation for these regattas, rowers in this program must be willing to commit to attending all practices, except for cases injury or illness. The competitive program will not be capped, but coaches will later select rowers eligible to compete at Henley. The number of Henley participants will be determined in part by the number of interested and qualified rowers available to comprise either women's or men's eights/fours.

Technical Youth Rowing Program: This program is designed for the high school rower who does not desire as intensive of a program as offered in our competitive youth program, but wishes to further work and develop their rowing skills in a summer program. All participants in Youth Rowing should have successfully completed AARC's YLTR program (or a similar program at another rowing club) or have received novice instruction through a high school rowing program. The technical youth rowing program will participate in the local Michigan Club Invitational in July 21. Regular attendance is encouraged but not required in this program. There is no cap on the number of participants.

Registration for all Youth AARC programs must be done through the SPORG online membership registration system. The appropriate SPORG forms can be accessed by clicking the red “Register” buttons on each page. Credit card transactions happen online and checks can be mailed to AARC’s post office box (P.O. Box 3128, Ann Arbor, MI 48106). In order to participate in one of the Youth Rowing Programs, you must register online and pass a Swim test. All participants are required to pass a swim test, which must be signed by a Red Cross certified lifeguard or swim instructor. This is standard policy for USRowing affiliated clubs. The test is not required to register, but must be completed by ALL rowers BEFORE getting into a boat. Details are available on the Swim Test page. Registrants who participate in high school rowing programs, for which they have passed a swim test, may submit a photocopy of the completed swim test form. Completed swim test forms may be brought to the first practice.

All participants MUST submit paper copies of the AARC and USRowing waivers in addition to completing the forms through online registration. Both forms can be found on the Forms Page and may be brought to the first practice.
