AARC encourages individuals with privately owned sculls (Private Boat Owners, or PBOs) to join the club and participate in its sculling activities. A limited number of PBO rack spaces are available in the AARC boathouse, and while it is not guaranteed, AARC will make attempts to accommodate PBOs. Spaces in the boathouse are extremely limited and will be allocated on a first-come first-served basis, according to a waiting list. All spaces in the boathouse, including racks and ceiling slings, are considered equivalent and will be assigned in the order in which they become available. PBOs may trade particular spaces amongst themselves or request a lottery for reassignment if a space comes empty. Please Note: PBOs who do not row their boat for an entire season will be asked to find storage elsewhere.
PBOs receive keys to the boathouse. Having a key to the boathouse carries the special responsibility of maintaining tight security for both AARC-owned and privately owned equipment in the boathouse. PBOs must enter all rows in the AARC logbook.
PBOs are encouraged to enter regattas under AARC's name and colors and to submit regatta entries with the rest of the club.
All PBOs are members of AARC and as such are invited to contribute to the welfare of the entire club. This includes work parties, de-rigging and re-rigging for regattas, attending club social events including BBQs, and fundraising.

Private Boat Owners and Coached Sculling Practice
All PBOs are invited and ecouraged to attend the coached sculling sessions sponsored by AARC's Club Sculling program. PBOs can pay a seasonal or yearly coaching/equipment fee to attend coached sculling sessions at will and to use certain AARC sculling equipment at certain times. The payment of the coaching/equipment fee entitles PBOs to:
- Use club 2x's and 4x's during coached sculling sessions and occasionally at other times;
- Row club 2x's and 4x's with other Club Sculling members and other PBOs who have paid the coaching/equipment fee;
- Participate in coached sculling sessions without additional fees (this does not guarantee that a boat will be available);
- Race in club 2x's and 4x's (this does not guarantee the boat will be available; arrangements must be made at least 3 weeks in advance)
Payment of the coaching/equipment fee does not entitle PBOs to use club 1x's, use club 2x's and 4x's with PBO who has not paid the coaching/equipment fee, use sweep boats, or receive free trailering of personal boats and club boats to regattas. If PBOs use club 2x's and 4x's on more than an occasional basis, additional equipment usage fees will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
Scullers who are not AARC PBOs may attend coached sculling sessions and use AARC sculling equipment according to the above restrictions if they buy an annual club membership and pay the coaching/equipment fee.
As always, all use of club sculling equipment requires the approval of the Director of Sculling. The Director of Sculling's approval will be based on, but not limited to, the following criteria: all fees up to date, a swim test form on file, a flip test on file or successful completion of a flip test, and agreement to follow the boat reservation policy. To contact the Director of Sculling, send an email to aarc-info@umich.edu.
All other use of club sculling equipment by PBOs will be approved and charged for on a case-by-case basis.

Registration
Registration for AARC Membership and all AARC programs must be done through the SPORG online membership registration system.
Registration for AARC membership and registration for individual adult rowing programs must now be done on separate forms. Every rower (except for participants in learning programs) myst complete the Membership Form and pay the Membership fee once a year (April 1 - March 31). Every rower must then complete the forms for the programs that he or she wants to participate in for the appropriate months or season. Please pay as many fees as possible using one SPORG "basket;" this minimizes our administrative costs, and we can pass the savings on to you.
To register for AARC membership only at this time, click the red box below. To register for both rack space and the membership fee, email info@a2crew.com to request the link to the proper online form.
If you have registration questions, please email info@a2crew.com.
