Ever wonder what it would be like to row in a sleek crew shell? Get a brief introduction to rowing with the Ann Arbor Rowing Club's Quick Catch program. These one-time classes begin with learning the basic technique on a rowing machine (or "erg") and then move to the water on our very stable training vessel, The Barge. From there, you’ll row in an 8-person shell with some experienced rowers.
Held in collaboration with Ann Arbor Rec & Ed and based on our National Learn to Row Day format, the LTR Quick Catch is a highly condensed introduction to the sport. Each session will be 2-3 hours in length.
This class is not a substitute for our 4-week LTR, nor is it required for taking LTR. The Quick Catch is meant to give people a chance to test the waters, to be a nice way to spend a half-day on the river, to learn some rowing vocabulary and techniques, to teach you how to get more out of your gym-based rowing machine workouts, or all of these!
Quick Catch may be right for you if you want to:
- See the Huron from a new vantage point
- Explore something active and new
- Learn proper rowing machine technique to get the most out of your gym workout and minimize injury potential
- Test out rowing before taking our 4-week LTR course
- Refresh latent rowing skills
- Prepare for AARC's Learn to Scull class and have no/little prior rowing experience
Participants should be at least 13 years old. Minors are encouraged to participate along with a parent or guardian and must have parental signature on waivers.
Classes require a minimum of 6 attendees, and will be held weekend mornings at 9:30am. All registration is conducted through Ann Arbor Rec & Ed.
Additional classes may be scheduled for groups of 8 or more. Contact info@a2crew.com for more information.
The LTR QuickCatch Fee is $35.
Class size is limited to 10 registrants. Classes in red are closed. Email info@a2crew.com to inquire about last-minute availability.
