SIGN UP FOR FROGTOWN BY OCT 4TH

Frogtown races are in Toledo on Sunday, October 15--sign-up sheets are already posted at the boathouse, and will be taken down on the evening of October 4th. Jen Shifferd will be the regatta captain. Fees are $9.50 per person for eights, $14.50 per person for fours, and singles are $22. Send your regatta questions to Tricia (triciam@umich.edu).

ROWING ON SUNDAY

There will be coached rowing this Sunday 10/8 @ 4:30 PM due to the cancellation of AARC attending the Head of the Ohio regatta. Cristin McCarty will be the coach that day. Please come out for a row and enjoy the Huron while you're at it.

INVITATION TO ATTEND & PARTICIPATE IN OCTOBER BOARD MEETING

I invite you to attend the next AARC Board Meeting on Tuesday October 10, beginning at 6:30pm. The meeting will take place in the Community Room, 425 S. Main St; parking is available in the lot in front of the building. The outside doors remain locked, so please arrive BY 6:30pm or make arrangements with Sarah or Margaret if you need to arrive late. Additionally you may call David at 734 604-9757 to be let in.

As always, the AARC Board meetings are open to all members and are a terrific place to have questions answered, voice your comments and concerns, and help brainstorm solutions. Recently members have expressed through email that their concerns and issues are not being properly addressed, such as recent concerns over board member selection and morning practice curtailment. Please take advantage of the board meeting to come out and have an open discussion about your issues. Too often email does not properly convey the complexity of an issue like open dialogue can; additionally, dialogue can help us move toward a solution. I encourage all potential attendees to read the bylaws and safety rules that are, as always, posted on the website so they can be better prepared to discuss some of the important issues that have been debated lately.

Please encourage your fellow members to join you and us at the meeting. The agenda is attached for your consideration. If you would like to add any other items to the agenda, please notify Tricia (triciam@umich.edu), Margaret (mlhudson17@gmail.com) or Sarah (marsh.sk@gmail.com). The whole board looks forward to seeing and hearing from you next week!

Margaret Hudson
President-elect, on behalf of the AARC Board of Directors

SAVE THE DATE: END OF THE YEAR PARTY ON NOV. 12

This year's end of the year party will take place at the Ladies Literary Club in Ypsilanti, MI on November 12th. Please join us to celebrate a great season. Good times, good friends, and great food! Don't miss out. I'm looking for a few volunteers to help me out with this event. Please email rachelandrianna@hotmail.com if you're interested. Thanks.

NOTE FROM COACH JODI

Attention Rowers: Please be attentive to your coxswains both on and off the water. Help our less experienced coxswains learn by letting them actually get to give commands!

Please do not move the boat unless the coxswain directs you to. Please do not cox from your seat.

The only exception to these rules are cases of emergency. Impatience with the time between commands does not constitute an emergency!

If the cox needs direction, on or off the water, let the coach or stroke seat assist them. This is especially true inside the boathouse where it can already be difficult to hear. At the racks, wait for the coxswain to tell you to move so that we can be coordinated. Recently we have had several cases of half the boat doing one thing at the racks while the other half was waiting for the cox to direct them.

Let's be diligent about rower and boat safety!

TYPICAL FALL COACHING SCHEDULE

Below is the typical weekly coaching schedule for the remainder of the season. On occasion a different coach will be filling in due to conflicts that we have scheduled around, but other than that you will see the coaches as assigned below. A copy will be posted at the boathouse as well.

For clarification: It was mentioned numerous times in the spring/summer that people were coached by the "wrong" person. i.e. "The ___ program coach coached the 'wrong' program tonight." The assignments are a guideline, but the number one priority is to ensure that all groups are getting appropriate coaching. Therefore, you will see the coaches rearrange their assignments to accomodate the group, most frequently when programs are combined (so that you get to row). ALL coaches coach multiple programs regularly (most have coached all of the programs over the course of the season), so we are familiar with all of you and can have the flexibility to switch things around to accomodate the group that is present.
