Videotaped Coaching Sessions
AARC is happy to announce two additional videotaping opportunities at this upcoming Friday (9/30) evening's practice, and this week's upcoming Sunday (10/2) 4:30 afternoon practice. This time we will only be taping one boat each practice, and due to high interest levels we would like boats to sign up in advance, so, if you put together a line-up (including a cox) please have ONE person email your line-up to Megan Gibb at mgibb@cityofypsilanti.com and let her know which date you are requesting. This is first come first served. If we don't get any organized boats, we'll still videotape so don't despair.
Frogtown Deadline Next Wednesday
Just a reminder that sign-up sheets and race schedules have been posted at the boathouse for the Frogtown Races, which take place on Saturday, October 15th. The deadline to sign-up is Wednesday, October 5th. So far, a limited number of people have signed-up for this race. Frogtown is a great opportunity to compete in a head race, especially for the novices who have yet to experience one. It’s a relatively short drive to Toledo and it’s a great time of year to row. So, let’s represent AARC well by sending a big contingent to Frogtown…..sign up at the boathouse ASAP!
If you have any questions about the Frogtown races please contact either Jeff Jones jfjones@umich.edu or Rachel Cox at rachelandrianna@hotmail.com. Thank you.
The club still needs volunteers for this one last QuickCatch, Sunday, Oct 2nd!
When: Most help is needed from about 2:45 pm - 4:00 pm, and a few hands or so would be nice right at 1:30 pm.
Do I have to be an active fall rower or a sweep rower?: NO! All AARC members, including scullers and PBOs, are welcomed to pitch in!
What will I do as a volunteer: Carry oars and boats to the dock. Sit in the bow pair, stern pair, or coxswain's seat while the participants test their new rowing skills. Carry oars/boats back to the boathouse. It's an added bonus if you also talk to the participants and just be gracious hosts!
Will I get a workout?: Well... no. But, stick around for the coached practice that follows at 4:30! Participants will mostly help with setting the boat and spinning it while they're in the water.
Do I have to be an experienced rower or coxswain?: No, and yes. We do need two experienced coxswains. And, rowers, so long as you've mastered setting the boat and spinning (and that's everyone!), you're in!
What does AARC gain by hosting these events?: We earn a little bit of money, contributing to our overall budget (and ultimately, slowly, helping to keep rowers' costs down). We pique others' interest in our sport, planting seeds in the heads of possible future members, as well as just spreading the word about what goes on down on the river. And, in this particular case, the participants are all from Zingerman's Mail Order, so we are also fostering a relationship with another organization in the community. While the benefits of that are mostly intangibles, I guarantee they're there!

AARC Hoodies for Order
We will be taking orders for navy hoodies with the AARC logo embroidered on the front and a2crew.com on the back between now and Friday at noon. To see a sample, go to the Merchandise link on the AARC website http://a2crew.com/merch.html. They are $40 each. You can also order directly on SPORG at: https://www.sporg.com/registration?link_type=reg_info&form_id=C07F9D157A.
Racing Clothing Available
I have extra unis (womens only), tanks, long-sleeved "Catch" style shirts, shorts and baseball caps available in assorted sizes. I will bring them down to the boathouse Wednesday and Thursday nights for anyone interested OR you can email me and I’ll arrange a dropoff. If you ordered and haven’t received your items, please email me too. Barb-Kraft@sbcglobal.net.
ANNOUNCING A LIGHTLY REVISED A2CREW.COM
The a2crew.com website has been lightly revised in both content and layout. If you have links to pages on a2crew.com, check your links to make sure they're still working, because many pages' addresses have changed.
Volunteers Needed
AARC needs someone to take on the job of ordering the racing clothing currently purchased from Regatta Sport, as well as the jackets.
Also needed is someone to take over the weekly email.
Please let Sarah know if you’re interested – marsh.sk@gmail.com
