SIGN UP FOR THE GRAND RIVER CHALLENGE
Sign up for the Grand River Challenge by Monday, September 18th! A new head race for our club, we'll be headed to Grand Rapids on September 30th. This head race is a bargain, with regatta fees ranging from only $5 per person in an eight, to $22.50 per single. There are appropriate categories for everyone, so sign up! If you can't make it to the boathouse by the end of the day Monday, email your interest (with age by Dec. 31, preferred side, and if you'll row in 2 head races) to Tricia (triciam@umich.edu).
LAST BBQ OF THE YEAR
Please join us Friday, Sept. 22 as the Basic Skills program hosts the final BBQ event of the 2006 season after the evening row. The club will provide burgers, buns, condiments, some beverages, and a few desserts and members are asked to please bring a side dish to share including chips, salads, dips or whatever else you can dream up.
Dale Shields has volunteered to organize the event on behalf of the BSD program. If there is anything you would like to contribute please send him a note to Dale at: arcratus@comcast.net. If there are any general questions concerning social programming plese email Delores Patterson at dpatterson@detnews.com.
We hope to see you there!

WELCOME NEW CLUB OFFICERS
At last night's meeting the Board of Directors elected officers for the 2006-07 season. Congratulations to: Margaret Hudson, President; Sarah Marsh, Vice President; Tricia Miranda, Secretary; and David Crouse, Treasurer. A special thanks to Sarah Marsh for her fearless, dedicated leadership this past year.
WELCOME TO OUR FLEET
You may have heard the "oohs" and "aws" as people have cooed over our two new mid-weight fours. Since they arrived as a pair, and are both now officially ready for use, we'd like to introduce them to the club! Considering the mean size (i.e. weight) of our club members, and the request of our coaches to have two matching mid-weight fours (this allows us to do such activities as "true" seat-racing), in June the Board approved the purchase of this beautiful twin-set. If you're not of the mid-weight class, never fear--there's no need to make the other members of the fleet feel jealous for all the attention! Though it's likely that the average boat weight will fit within a mid-weight class, for lightweights we have the Sea Change, and access to Huron's lightweight fours when there's a truly all lightweight crew (Huron was kind enough to let us borrow their fours for both the MCI and Henley races and race prep during the sprint season); and for heavyweight use we have the Dominick (which has lots of racing experience, guiding AARC men through last year's HOCR and then with the Michigan men this past spring) and Racer (the "old" one). It's exciting to be able to add such beautiful boats that fit the Club's needs--thanks for giving them such a warm welcome!
SEPTEMBER MEMBERSHIP DIRECTORY
The updated AARC September 2006 Membership Directory is now available (and is attached)! With the new monthly payment system, the membership directory will be updated each month, with a new copy made available through the weekly email sent the second Wednesday of each month. Please let Margaret (mlhudson17@gmail.com) know if there are any corrections or additions to be made.
TYPICAL FALL COACHING SCHEDULE
Below is the typical weekly coaching schedule for the remainder of the season. On occasion a different coach will be filling in due to conflicts that we have scheduled around, but other than that you will see the coaches as assigned below. A copy will be posted at the boathouse as well.
For clarification: It was mentioned numerous times in the spring/summer that people were coached by the "wrong" person. i.e. "The ___ program coach coached the 'wrong' program tonight." The assignments are a guideline, but the number one priority is to ensure that all groups are getting appropriate coaching. Therefore, you will see the coaches rearrange their assignments to accomodate the group, most frequently when programs are combined (so that you get to row). ALL coaches coach multiple programs regularly (most have coached all of the programs over the course of the season), so we are familiar with all of you and can have the flexibility to switch things around to accomodate the group that is present.
