COMMUNITY SERVICE OPPORTUNITY

AARC donated a QuickCatch session for auction at the annual Foodgatherer's fundraiser. Many people bid on it, and someone won it for hundreds of dollars! That money went directly to Foodgatherers in support of their annual operating expenses, providing many many meals to hungry people.

After working hard with the winning bidder, we've found a date for them to claim their prize - this Sunday morning. We need 10 volunteers to make the event happen and we're starting to get desperate, as we realize this is a tough time of year to beg for you to spend extra time at the boathouse due to vacations and other summertime activities. Can you come from 10:30 - noon? While this is a rowing thing for sure, you can feel good knowing that your time was given to a good cause.

Please email Karen Gates (kgates@umich.edu) or Sarah Marsh (marsh.sk@gmail.com) if you're willing to help - this is the last one of these this season, and again, it's one you can feel extra good about participating in!

What: carry oars, carry boats to the water, sit in bow or stern pair to set the boat for the participants or cox the boat
When: 10:30 - noon (could always use help earlier, actual event begins at 9:00 am), this Sunday 8/6
Why: participate in the club's effort to be good neighbors/community members
Who: any PBO, sculler, sweep rower, regardless of experience!
How: email Karen (kgates@umich.edu ) or Sarah (marsh.sk@gmail.com)
BONUS: Optional group erg session led by Mike Taft beginning at 10 am sharp. We can probably keep at it til 10:45.

CALL FOR NOMINATIONS FOR THE AARC BOARD

At this time, we are opening the call for nominations to run for a position on the board! All members (including PBOs) are eligible to run for a 2 year position on the board and all members are also eligible to vote in the election. A nyone in the club can nominate any member for the board. Additionally, any member can nominate him- or herself, and in fact, we encourage you to do so if you have an interest in the board! In order to be a functioning governing body, the board needs representation from all areas of the club, including morning and evening open rowers, ITP rowers, BSD members, club scullers, and PBOs.

So, start nominating those who you feel would be good leaders of the club! Submit your nominations (including self-nominations!) via email to aarc-nominate@umich.edu by Wednesday August 9 at 5pm. The election of the 4 new board members will take place at the Annual Club Meeting and BBQ on Saturday August 26.

Please contact Margaret at mlhudson17@gmail.com with any questions about the nominations process, the elections process, the rewarding experience of being an AARC board member, or anything else at all!

SAVE THE DATE

The Ann Arbor Rowing Club will host its Annual Meeting and Summer Picnic at Delhi Metropark from noon - 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26. The day will include food, games and more. The club will also be voting for new board members during the event. Family and friends are welcome. Please mark your calendars and plan to attend. If you would like to help plan some activities please email Delores Patterson at dpatterson@detnews.com.

ORDERS FOR AARC SPLASH JACKETS ARE NOW BEING TAKEN

Orders for THE NEW AARC ROWING JACKETS are being accepted starting at 5pm today, August 2, via the Sporg online ordering system, accessible on the AARC web site ( http://www.a2crew.com/merch.html). Based on member feedback, AARC has switched from our previous style jacket to the "Purist Splash Jacket" with a hytrell shell, made by J. L. Racing. The jackets are navy blue and red, similar to the AARC race gear, and have the AARC logo embroidered on the front, and "Ann Arbor Rowing" in white silk screen lettering on the back. I'll get a picture or two up on the website soon, so keep checking the merchandise page! The jacket sizing information for both men and women can be found on the J. L. Racing web site ( www.jlracing.com). The cost for the new jacket is $116.00* and they are expected to arrive at the boathouse in September. Please note: zipper pockets can be added to your jacket for $10. Be sure to mark your calendars ... orders must be placed not later than Friday, August 11, 2006. No extra stock jackets will be ordered! Don't miss out -- order yours today! Email questions to aarcmerch@umich.edu.

*Please note that is price is predicated on a minimum of 9 jackets ordered. If fewer than 9 orders are placed the jackets will cost approximately $128.00 and a check or cash for the difference in cost will be payable upon order pick-up.
