CALL FOR NOMINATIONS FOR THE AARC BOARD
Now that the MCI is successfully completed, it's time to turn to another important item of club business. As you may or may not know, AARC is run by a volunteer Board of Directors. The directors are elected from the club membership once a year at our Annual Meeting and BBQ to be held Saturday August 26 this year. At this time, we are opening the call for nominations to run for a position on the board!
AARC is an energetic, diverse, growing, and exciting club, and it is very rewarding to be a part of shaping its the future as a board member. Keeping AARC running and planning for its future also requires a tremendous amount of time, hard work, and dedication. Like most things, the club does not run itself, and much of what you experience in AARC starts and ends with board members' planning and hard work. Each board member brings a different set of skills and strengths to the table to make a complete, well run club.
All members (including PBOs) are eligible to run for a 2 year position on the board and all members are also eligible to vote in the election. A nyone in the club can nominate any member for the board. Additionally, any member can nominate him- or herself, and in fact, we encourage you to do so if you have an interest in the board! Please note: you do not need to be a longstanding member to make significant contributions to the board. We strongly encourage novice and other new members to consider running for the board to offer your valuable new insights and ideas. In order to be a functioning governing body, the board needs representation from all areas of the club, including morning and evening open rowers, ITP rowers, BSD members, club scullers, and PBOs.
So, start nominating those who you feel would be good leaders of the club! Everyone is encouraged to talk with current board members about the experience and to get an idea of what the board does, as well as what skills and talents would be particularly helpful (see http://www.a2crew.com/admin/board.html for members and their pictures!). Submit your nominations (including self-nominations!) via email to aarc-nominate@umich.edu by Wednesday August 9 at 5pm.
More information about the actual election will follow!
Please contact Margaret at mlhudson17@gmail.com with any questions about the nominations process, the elections process, the rewarding experience of being an AARC board member, or anything else at all!
DON'T FORGET TO REGISTER FOR AUGUST ROWING
If you haven't already registered to row this August, please do so by visiting www.a2crew.com . If you rowed in July and would like to continue into August, please register by 4:30pm this Monday, July 31 to assure uninterrupted rowing! Not sure if you're already registered? Other questions? Email the Membership Chair, Margaret, at mlhudson17@gmail.com.
BBQ THIS FRIDAY
The open rowers are hosting this month's AARC BBQ on Friday, July 28. We are honoring this year's novices and their LTR coaches with a graduation party and are hoping for a big open rowing representation. Please show your support. The club will provide burgers, buns, condiments, some beverages, and a few desserts, so bring an additional dish to pass and come help us celebrate the growth of the club and to extend a warm welcome to our new members.

SPECIAL QUICK CATCH, SUNDAY, AUGUST 6
Last month we gained AARC publicity among ~1400 potential rowers in our community by including a private quick catch in a silent auction benefiting Food Gatherers, Washtenaw County's very successful food recovery organization (www.foodgatherers.org). Our eye-catching AARC photo display was a hit, the bidding was competitive, the proceeds will help alleviate hunger in Washtenaw County, and now we owe the winning bidder a quick catch the morning of Sunday, August 6. Can you help? Sarah Marsh is technical lead, and we need just 9 volunteers to pitch in. Coffee and bagels provided! Please contact Karen Gates: kgates@umich.edu. Thanks!
LOST BACKPACK AT MCI
A Grand Rapids coach left a small, black camelback brand backpack behind on Saturday containing a bicycle multi-tool, inhaler, green nalgene, red jersey, and a lavender collared shirt; if you recovered this backpack, please let us know, mci_regatta@umich.edu.
