Learn to Cox clinic - Thursday, June 23

All rowers who do not know how to cox should plan to attend practice Thursday evening for a clinic on coxing. We will spend the practice teaching basic coxing skills and attempt to get everybody a chance in the coxswain seat. Please note that this is important information for getting you out on the water as a coxswain for the first time - there will still be plenty of learning to do at that time, but this will give you the basics.

As always - WE NEED LTR Coxswains!

Mike and Ann's LTRs are reaching that point - if you can help out on Mon, Wed or Fri evenings in the next three weeks, email Ann (ferrisa@umich.edu). If you can help on a Tues/Thurs evening or Saturday morning, email Mike (yazbo822@comcast.net).

Some Reasons to Cox for an LTR:
1. Get involved with new rowers in their formative weeks, mwhah hah hah! 2. It counts as a coxing credit for open rowers.
3. Get your weekly good deed out of the way - you do perform a weekly good deed, right?
4. Meet the new rowers - these classes are two great groups of people!
5. Allow me to stop sending these begging emails. It's pathetic, really.
6. If it's a Thursday, you can use it as an excuse to treat yourself to an extra-tall jar of sangria that night at Dominick's!
7. If each of us just take one class, then no one person has to do it too many times.
8. Set a good example for the newbies on what it takes to make this club work - active participation/contributing from all of our members! (Ok, so that one's a little sanctimonious - I'll stop here, you get the message - please help!).

QuickCatch Volunteers needed for June 25!

If you haven't helped with one of these yet this year (and I do know who you are ;) please consider pitching in, helping out, lending a hand. These QuickCatch sessions are big marketing events for spreading rowing goodwill within the community and for advertising our Learn To Row programs. With enough participants, they make the club a little money too. So, please email me to offer to help. Depending upon enrolment, we need at least 6 people and as many as 12 or so. marsh.sk@gmail.com

Thank you to those who have already helped out (some more than once!) at a QuickCatch this year: Ana S, Carly G, Casey W, Delores P, Diana E, Firuz A, Jason W, Karen L, Kristin S, Laura R, Margaret H, Megan G, Mike T, Nora W, Pat S, Patricia C, Peggy H, Ray T, Rich G, Robert DeYoung, Robin SP, Sally H, Seonag I, Serena V, Susan E, Will M., Tricia!

QuickCatch on June 25 has Many Open Seats - Spread the Word

These little sessions are a great way to introduce someone to our great sport. Whether it's a friend you've been trying to convince to row forever or a spouse who just wants to understand your rowing language better or your favorite gym rat who you think might benefit from learning how to use an erg properly, convince people you know to come out for the class. Links to registration and more information are on our website: http://www.a2crew.com/ltrqc.html

If every club member sends emails to two friends about this event, we'll quickly reach 200+ people! Please help publicize this!

The Final (?) Word on Sunday Rowing

Sunday rowing will operate from now on the way week-day evenings operate - all rowers (AdComp, Novice, Open) are encouraged to just drop-in as they would on any weeknight. Boats will be formed by coaches, as usual, and switch-ins and coxing assignments will be handled as usual as well. Set boats are welcome, but not necessary, and must provide their own coxswain. 4:30 - 6:00 pm on Sundays

Grand Rapids Regatta, Saturday, July 9!!

The next sprint race regatta will be held in Grand Rapids on Saturday, July 9. Mark your calendars now. There is a single signup sheet at the Boathouse; please sign up here if you intend to attend the Grand Rapids regatta. The event list will be posted in the near future. We wish to know who will be attending so we may best assemble boats and lineups, and to make sure all who wish to attend are placed in as many boats as possible.

USRowing Midwest Masters Regionals

A reminder for anyone who wants to go to USRowing's Midwest Regional Regatta in Indianapolis, Indiana July 30 & 31, YOU MUST HAVE PAID YOUR USROWING MEMBERSHIP BEFORE THE ENTRY DEADLINE IF YOU WANT TO COMPETE. Go to www.usrowing.org for information. Please also note that there ARE REC LEVEL RACES AT MIDWEST MASTERS REGIONALS!!!

MCI Volunteers needed

The Michigan Club Invitational, the State Championship of Club Rowing in Michigan is coming up fast and AARC is the host club. Sign ups for volunteer to work during the regatta will be posted at the end of June. PLEASE NOTE ALL ROWERS MUST VOLUNTEERS FOR A SHIFT AND ARE EXPECTED TO HELP SET UP OR CLEAN UP AFTER! Specifically we're still looking for coordinators for the following two jobs: VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR: Makes sure people sign up for times and then on race day makes sure they know where to be and when to be.

PARKING COORDINATOR: Fairly easy job. MUST BE AT REGATTA EARLY. Coordinates where trailers and cars park and keeps them out of the main regatta area. Will have assistance the day of the event.

IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN THESE COORDINATOR POSITIONS, PLEASE E-MAIL NOEL CIMMINO at noelcimmino@aol.com. Thanks again. Noel

Club Clothing

If anyone would like to take a look at what club racing clothing is available before the regatta, I’ll be down at the boathouse Wednesday night at 6:00 and will stay after rowing for awhile. I’ve got an assortment of long-sleeved shirts, some shorts, a couple of unis and maybe some tanks. I’ll also take requests to see if there’s enough interest to place an order from Regatta Sport.
