If you rowed in May and would like to continue into June, please register by 4:30pm on Wednesday May 31 to assure uninterrupted rowing! Questions? Email the Membership Chair, Margaret, at mlhudson17@gmail.com.

SIGN UP NOW FOR DETROIT REGATTA

Sign-ups for the 167th Detroit Boat Club Crew Regatta (Saturday, June 17) are posted at the boathouse--deadline for sign-ups is Monday, June 5th. Come out and share the regatta experience with our DBC neighbors, the oldest rowing club in America. Regatta questions? Email Tricia (triciam@umich.edu).

RETURN OF COXAPALOOZA

Coxapalooza is back by popular demand. The upcoming week of June 4 (evenings) will be devoted to introducing new and old members to the joy and inner workings of coxing in addition to running our normal workouts. If you have never coxed you are required to attend an evening and we will lead you through it. Better yet, cox twice next week to increase your comfort level. Experienced cox'ns: we will still need some coxing from you as well although preference will be given to new cox'ns. Let's all be helpful and understanding. Remember, the more cox'ns we have on board the less frequently we each have to cox. If you have any questions please contact Kate Herrington nurseless1@comcast.net or Marcia Leonard marcia@umich.edu

ANY SCULLERS WANT TO RACE?

Are you a club sculler/PBO who wants to compete in a regatta? If so, please indicate your interest in each announced regatta on the sign-up sheets in the boathouse (and indicate that you're a sculler). We're all rowing on the same team--please let us take the administrative hassle out of your hands and enter one complete club registration for each regatta. Thank you!

DO YOU KNOW HOW TO DRIVE A LAUNCH?

We're looking for an experienced launch driver who is willing to share his/her skills, by teaching a couple of people how to drive a launch. What do you need to know?

    1. The river flow pattern
    2. How to start, stop and drive in reverse AND
    3. Why it is important to minimize wake (consider small boats, wildlife etc)

We estimate that it will be a time commitment of a couple of hours, maximum, over the whole season. We'll set up a checklist of what the new launch driver needs to know, and what should be taken in the boat each time the launch goes out, and you'll teach the new launch driver the ropes. Interested? email Lora at freemanlora@yahoo.com

MCI T-SHIRT DESGIN CONTEST

Have you had the desire to create a rowing shirt? Here's your chance! We're looking for inspiring designs for this year's MCI t-shirt (that can be potentially recyclable to other years). Ideal designs will include "MCI", "Ann Arbor", "sponsored by Ann Arbor Rowing Club" and "Argo Pond" somewhere. Please email your design entries (you can submit more than one!) to mci_regatta@umich.edu. Winner receives a free t-shirt, so good luck!

SAFETY TIP: LIFE JACKETS and BOW LIGHTS for EVERYONE!

Please remember that we (and the law!) require a life jacket in either the launch or the shell for everyone on the water, including the coaches and coxswains. Bow lights are required for all boats rowing at dawn, dusk or in the dark. Even when you know it will be light out in 15-20 minutes, you MUST have a bow light on your boat to row in low light. Thanks, and safe rowing!

PLEASE READ THE WEEKLY EMAIL

Are you reading the weekly email? The 12th person to email mlhudson17@gmail.com will receive an AARC gift! (One email per person please.)

Striving to reach that extra inch at the catch? Plagued by tight muscles? Want to improve your balance, strength, concentration AND flexibility? Join YOGA FOR ROWERS at 8:30am on Saturday mornings! Sessions run for 7 weeks. Let me know if you're interested: freemanlora@yahoo.com

KNOW YOUR ABCs? DON'T MIND PAPER CUTS?

If you're interested in helping out the club on a short-term, fairly low effort project, here's an opportunity! I'm looking for someone to help me do a little filing and weeding out of AARC documents. If you're up to the challenge, please email Margaret, mlhudson17@gmail.com.

RACING SEASON IS UPON US
