SWEEP ROWING SEASON TO BEGIN MONDAY APRIL 10: DON'T FORGET TO REGISTER!

Opening day for the 2006 season is this coming Monday, April 10. On that day, Open and ITP practices will happen at 5:30 am and 6:30 pm. Please arrive five minutes early in order to sign in and get ready to hit the water. Here we go!

We're excited to see you on the water, but don't forget that in order to row next week you MUST be registered to row! With the new and very flexible month-to-month payment option it's very easy to get registered, even if you don't know what your entire spring/summer schedule will be. A list of registered rowers will be printed each day of the first week of the season (April 10-16) at 5pm. If your name doesn't appear as a registered rower at that time, you may NOT row that evening. After the first week of the season, lists of registered rowers will be generated on Mondays at 5pm. In order to row if your name does not appear on the list you MUST bring a printed confirmation of your registration to the boathouse in order to row until your name appears on the next week's print out of rowers. Please help yourself and us out by registering online today! You will find tons of information about the new season on www.a2crew.com, so check it out. Questions or concerns about payment or registration? Email Margaret - mlhudson17@gmail.com.

Club scullers, we'll let you know when the water and air temperature are high enough that you can scull safely; we anticipate that to be sometime in early May. Until then, the club-owned sculls will not be rigged.

EXPERIENCED COXES NEEDED FOR OPENING WEEK OF ROWING

The first week of the season is an exciting time but it can be hectic as rowers and coaches get back into the swing of AARC routines. That being said the coaches have requested experienced coxwains for the first week of practices. If you are a veteran rower you've rowed a lot and probably have coxed a lot. We need and want your expertise. You can make a difference as rowers get back into the swing (pun intended) of rowing. The Coxing Committee would love to have a list of volunteers available for next week. E-mail Kate Herrington at nurseless1@comcast.net or Marcia Leonard at Marcia@umich.edu with your availability.

SAFE ROWING

Looking for another rowing related challenge? The American Red Cross of Washtenaw County has an Adult CPR/AED and First Aid course that covers recognizing and caring for breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults; identifying and caring for life-threatening bleeding, sudden illness, and injuries. Participants will earn Adult CPR certification, AED certification, and Standard First Aid certification. It's FREE to MCARE subscribers, or $55 for the 6 hour course. These are great skills to have on, and off, the water! When you sign up, let me know, and I'll keep track of how many of our rowers participate. Likewise, if you've already got up-to-date training, I'm interested to hear about it. Here is the website for the times and dates of the upcoming courses: http://www.wc-redcross.org/classes/cpr_first_aid.htm

Cheers, and safe rowing!

COXING SYSTEM REMINDER

AARC will continue to use the row to cox ratio in the upcoming seasons. The average was 1:4-5 rows so stay in charge of your ratio. Sign up ahead of time and avoid the disappointment of being assigned to cox when you really wanted to row. Questions? E-mail Kate Herrington at nurseless1@comcast.net

YOGA FOR ROWERS

What a success! The first seven week session of Yoga for Rowers was so popular that we added a second one. The current session will continue until the last week in April, and we're already planning for the May-June term. Let me know if you want to be contacted when there is room for a few more in the next session. The classes are at 8:30 am on Saturdays. Contact Lora Freeman at freemanlora@yahoo.com for more information.

OPEN HOUSE A SUCCESS

Thanks to all who came out and helped with the AARC's annual Open House event on Sunday. It was a huge success!
