Learn to Scull

AARC's Learn to Scull class is an intensive, condensed introduction to sculling. These sessions are composed of four 90-120 minute sessions on a single weekend, Saturday morning/afternoon and Sunday morning/afternoon.  For personalized training and instruction, classes are limited to two participants per instructor.

Instructors will demonstrate basic proper technique geared to teach participants to use single and double scull shells.  Participants will learn the sculling rowing stroke and how to safely maneuver sculling equipment unassisted both on land and in the water.  Additional instruction on how to re-enter capsized craft from the water will be provided.

Qualifications

In order to take one of AARC's Learn to Scull classes, you must register online and pass a Swim Test.

Participants must be 18 years of age, or else accompanied by a parent or legal guardian for all four sessions, either as another participant in the class, or as an observer in the instructor's launch.

Physical Requirements

Individuals should be in good health and capable of enduring land and water-based physical activity. They must be able to carry a single scull weighing approximately 40-50 lbs unassisted both on land and in the water. It is important that participants be able to turn their heads to look behind them.

Also, most of the equipment has a 220-pound weight limit, so possible participants who exceed that weight should check with instructor before enrolling.  Participants will be accommodated in this course to the extent that their physical ability and body type allows.

Rowing Experience Requirement

Some sweep rowing experience is strongly recommended for LTS, but ultimately not required.  Those with no sweep rowing experience are strongly encouraged to take  AARC’s Learn-to-Row QuickCatch or 6-week Learn-to-Row.   Feel free to email info@a2crew.com for help in selecting the right class to maximize your experience.
