Sweep Rowing

Sweep rowing with AARC offers many options and levels of participation.  If you are an experienced rower, but new to the club please contact info@a2crew.com to set up a guest row to determine the best program fit.

Coached sweep practices are available:

5:30 - 7:00AM*       M-F
6:30 - 8:00PM        M-F

Rowers should arrive 10-15 minutes prior to the start time.  Place your name stick on the board to indicate your presence as line-ups are made accordingly by the coaches.  Rowers who arrive after line-ups are in process are considered late, and may not be boated.

*Rowers interested in morning practice will need to make themselves known to be included in the scheduling emails/process.  Morning rows are pre-scheduled to ensure that enough participants are available to boat.  Rowers will need to make their availability known the Wednesday prior to the week being scheduled.  Those interested in being put into the morning queue should contact the morning scheduler.

Morning Scheduler:

NOVICE

A program open to all members but focusing on the beginner rower or those returning after a long break from rowing.  This program stresses rowing safety and rowing fundamentals such as introductions to rowing shells, stroke technique and conditioning.

Depending upon the speed of rower development and evaluation of the coaching staff a novice rower can move up to the more advanced rowing programs.  The club encourages novice members to complete a minimum of 4 months of “on the water” rowing before considering advancing to Open or Competitive programs in order to help ensure that technical abilities are on par with the more advanced program requirements.

Novice rowers are afforded the opportunity to race in regattas offering novice/recreational events.

Rowers are encouraged to discuss their progress with the coaches to help determine if advancement to either the Open or Competitive programs is advised.

Program runs:     Evening session--full season starting 4/5/2010
                         Morning sessions--begins in May

OPEN
A program for members who have completed the LTR and Novice program or have previous experience in rowing.  Open rowing offers flexible participation with morning and afternoon sessions.  The program focuses on refining of rowing technique as well as some strength and conditioning work.

Open rowers are encouraged to participate in regional regattas but competition is not required. Open Rowing includes both morning and afternoon sessions.  Morning rowing sessions are pre-scheduled in order to reduce the potential for absenteeism and failure to send boats out due to lack of attendance.  Afternoon Open sessions are not pre-scheduled.

Rowers interested in the Competitive program are urged to row with the Open program for the first month of the season.

Program Runs:    Full season starting 4/5/2010

COMPETITIVE
A voluntary program designed for the more experienced rower.  The program components include refining technique, heavy strength and conditioning as well as racing plans and strategy with a focus towards advanced competition.  This program requires flexibility in scheduling and commitments to set practice times.

Eligibility for the program is conditional on rowers having participated in the Open program.  Program specific requirements for boat lineups will be developed between the coaching staff and the program participants in order to provide an open and consistent process for evaluation and improvement.  Some basic expectations include but are not limited to occasional testing (i.e. ergs, seat racing) for evaluation of improvement.

Program runs:    May-Oct
